Community Business Beautification Grant

The Community Business Beautification Grant was established to offer local businesses and organizations additional financial support to make permanent landscaping enhancements.  Preference will be given to applications that beautify the landscape of the property.

  • To assist local businesses and organizations (churches, non-profit societies and community groups) to contribute to the beautification of Whitecourt.
  • To enhance the quality of life and well-being for the residents of Whitecourt by increasing the aesthetic appeal of streets and neighbourhoods.
  • To assist businesses or organizations to make permanent upgrades to their property.

Applications are being accepted for the 2017 funding year!  Submit your application by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1.  If you have questions regarding the grant please contact the Planning & Development Department at 780-778-2273 or email planning@whitecourt.ca.

 

Community Clean Up Program

The Town of Whitecourt offers non-profit organizations funding for performing refuse pick up duties within the community incouding highway ditches, and boulevards.  The refuse pick up schedule typically runs from April to the end of October (weather permitting) and the opportunity is advertised annually.  To qualify for the program, groups must provide a written request to the Town outlining how the funds will be used, confirming dates that the group would be available to perform the work, and providing an address and phone number for the group contact person.  Groups must provide:
  • a minimum of 12 volunteers, with at least one adult for every two non-adults; and,
  • must contribute a minimum of 100 person hours of clean up work to receive payment of $1,000 per group.

As of 2017, all those participating in clean up efforts must be at least 9 years of age.  Please refer to the policy linked below for information.

To qualify for the program, groups must provide a written request to the Town, outlining how the funds would be used, confirming dates that the group would be available to perform the work, and providing an address and phone number for two group representatives.

Community Crosswalk Grant Program

The Community Crosswalk Grant program provides funding to local schools to establish or enhance a Crosswalk Program.  Safety is a priority for the Town of Whitecourt, and this program will enhance our children's safety at community crosswalks.

Applications to the program are due June 30 annually for the following school year.

 

Enhancement Grant

The Whitecourt Enhancement Grant was established to offer recreation, art and culture organizations and groups additional assistance for the enhancement of programs, services, special events, specialized equipment or facilities that are not normally funded through their annual budget.  

Applications for the 2017 funding year will be accepted until 4:00pm on Friday, March 24.  Questions regarding the program and your application can be directed to Emma Harper, Whitecourt Recreation Coordinator, at 780-778-3637 ext. 421.

*Please note: This grant will now be allocated once per year in the spring.  There will no longer be fall intakes.

To be considered for this grant, a representative from the group or organization is required to attend the Enhancement Grant Workshop on Wednesday, March 15 from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre unless they have already attended.

The objectives of the grant are:
  • To provide funding to local recreation, arts & culture organizations for the enhancement of programs, services, special events, specialized equipment or facilities that are not normally funded through their annual budget.
  • To enhance recreation opportunities and the well-being of the residents of Whitecourt and Woodlands County.
  • To enhance sport, recreation, arts and cultural development.
  • To promote and encourage volunteerism and community spirit by enhancing the work of local volunteer organizations.
  • To provide a funding source for recreation, art and culture programs, services, events, facilities or equipment that is not eligible for funding from other municipal, provincial or federal sources.
     

Family Community Support Services (FCSS) Grant

The Town of Whitecourt FCSS Grant Program provides assistance to community organizations that plan to provide social programs that are preventive in nature to the community. For more information please contact the Community Services Department at 780-778-6300.

The application deadline for the 2017 program year has passed. The application deadline for the 2018 FCSS Grant Program is on November 30, 2017.  

To be eligible for consideration, projects must meet one or more of the following FCSS mandates:

  • Enhance, strengthen and stabilize community life.
  • Improve the ability of persons to identify and act on their own social needs.
  • Help avert family or community social breakdown.
  • Help prevent the development of crisis situations for individuals and families.
  • Promote and support volunteerism.
  • Support the development of children, youth, adults and families.
 

Investing In Our Community

Investing In Our Community is a new capital funding program developed by the Town of Whitecourt to enhance partnerships with local non-profit organizations. The proposed program will provide interest free loans to non-profit organizations to assist in leveraging their resources for community capital investments that benefit the community.  Applications to this program are accepted year-round.

     

Seniors Grant Assistance

Are you having difficulty filling out seniors benefit forms?The Family Community Support Services Department assists seniors to complete senior benefit applications. Please call 780-778-6300 to make an appointment.

 

Tourism Enhancement Grant

Whitecourt Woodlands Tourism, a partnership between the Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County, has developed a grant program to enhance and encourage partnerships with local non-profit organizations.  The Community and Tourism Enhancement Grant Program offers financial assistance to local community groups for projects or events that enhance tourism development in the Whitecourt and Woodlands County area.  Applications are accepted annually.  

The application deadline for the 2017 funding year has passed.  Please watch for information on the 2018 program in the new year.

     

Tourism Product Development Grant Program

Have you thought about organizing mountain bike tours through the region?  Or have you ever thought that offering jet boat tours would be an interesting job for you?  You could be eligible for up to $2,500 to assist with start up costs, such as advertising or capital investments. Whitecourt Woodlands Tourism is accepting applications to the Tourism Product Development Grant Program to help support the development of tourism based products and services.  All applications must include a letter of interest or business plan detailing the project, noting the sustainability and potential growth of the business, as well as a description of what the funds will be used for.

Vitalization Grant Program

The Vitalization Grant Program offers businesses located in the downtown core and along the Highway 43 corridor up to $10,000 per application to enhance the exterior appearance of their business/property to match the newly adopted architectural wood/stone theme.  The wood/stone theme was adopted in the Whitecourt Vitalization Plan which will act as a guide for our community over the next several years to revitalize downtown and beautify the Highway 43 corridor.  The program's objectives are to:

  • Assist local businesses located in the downtown core and along Highway 43 to enhance the exterior appearance of their building to meet the architectural theme.
  • Enhance the quality of life and well-being of the residents of Whitecourt by increasing the aesthetic appeal of the Highway 43 corridor and downtown core.
  • To enhance the pride and profile of the Town of Whitecourt for both residents and visitors alike.
