Nomination Day for the 2017 Municipal Election
2017 Municipal Election
Local government elections are held under the authority of the Local Authorities Elections Act, and are held on the third Monday in October every four years. If required, this year’s election will be on Monday, October 16, 2017.
Candidate Information Packages
Candidates are now able to obtain Information Packages including nomination papers from the Town Administration Office located at 5004 – 52 Avenue. For more information, call the Town’s Legislative Manager at 780-778-2273.
Qualifications for Candidates
A person may be nominated as a candidate in a Town of Whitecourt election that falls under the Local Authorities Election Act, if on nomination day, he or she:
- is eligible to vote in that election,
- has been a resident of the local jurisdiction for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day, and
- is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.
All persons filing nomination papers for the Office of Mayor or for a position on Council can only file on Nomination Day, which is Monday, September 18, 2017. Papers must be dropped off at the Town Administration Office (5004 – 52 Avenue) between 10:00 AM and 12:00 Noon.
