Press Release - Whitcourt Fire Department Members complete Firefighters Stairclimb Challenge
Congratulations to members of the Whitecourt Fire Department that participated in the April 29 Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge. Twelve members represented Whitecourt and climbed a grueling 775 vertical feet (1,204 steps) in full duty gear at the Bow Tower in Calgary.
For several months, the group has been training for the event and raising funds in support of Wellspring Calgary. Wellspring supports firefighters and civilians living with cancer through programs and resources offered to them free of charge. Whitecourt Fire Rescue raised over $11,160, and received a team honourable mention from event organizers for their fundraising efforts.
“I’m proud of how well they represented Whitecourt and the effort they put into the training,” stated Whitecourt Fire Chief Brian Wynn.
This is the fourth year for the event, and the first year that Whitecourt Fire Department members have participated.
“Congratulations to all twelve members for completing the climb! The determination and dedication of our Fire Department members towards supporting exemplary causes is one of the many things that makes our Department one of the best in Alberta,” added Whitecourt Mayor Maryann Chichak. “Congratulations to Firefighter Jordon Berube-Potvin for his
exceptional time of 13.43 minutes – an incredible finish!”
