Slide repair on the hillside along Highway 43 – Closure of Hillside Trail until July 19:
Kana Oilfield Services has been hired by Alberta Transportation to repair areas along the hillside of the south side of Highway 43 between 51 Street and Hospital Road. Work is progressing, however in order to complete the repairs, a portion of Hillside Trail between Memorial Point and 51 Street will be closed until July 19. Signage and barricades have been placed along the trail. Questions related to this project can be made to Irvin Fry, Site Supervisor, at 587-336-7073.
Road Crack Sealing:
Whitecourt Infrastructure Services crews are completing crack sealing work on roads in the valley today, and will begin work in the hilltop area on July 6.
Pot Hole Patching:
As is typically the case, Whitecourt experienced temperature swings throughout the winter and spring season, which has created ideal conditions for the development of pot holes. Town of Whitecourt crews continue to patch pot holes throughout town.
Whitecourt Wide Area Network:
Installation and commissioning of fiber optic communication cable segments to connect several public facilities to Alberta SuperNet will begin soon. Timelines for the project are as follows (weather depending):
July 15 to 20: Hilltop East Industrial Area – along 35 Street (from 35 Avenue to 37 Avenue) and along the north-east end of 37 Avenue
July 20 to 27: 37 Avenue – from approximately 37 Street to Highway 43
July 27 to August 7: Along the boulevard of Highway 43 (between the highway and Caxton Street) from 37 Avenue west to the Allan & Jean Millar Centre
Notices to businesses along the route will be provided by the contractor prior to construction starting.
FortisAlberta Downtown Pole Replacement:
As part of Whitecourt’s Vitalization Plan, wood streetlight poles will be replaced with decorative Domus light fixtures throughout the downtown core.
Streetlight bases and lights will be installed along 52 Avenue starting July 10 through to July 27. 52 Avenue, from 52 Street through to 50 Street (west of the Fire Hall, east to the United Church), will be impacted by the work. Crews will be temporarily closing and blocking sections of the sidewalk and parking areas along 52 Avenue as work progresses. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes when possible.
