All comments received regarding the 2019 Budget will be considered by Council during budget deliberations.

It is anticipated that the possession, sale and consumption of cannabis for recreational use will be legalized by the Government of Canada on October 17, 2018.  In preparation for this, the Town of Whitecourt has been working to determine guidelines surrounding consumption within our community.  At the August 21 Regular Meeting, Council gave first reading to an amendment to the Community Standards Bylaw to include prohibitions and provisions for the consumption of cannabis.   The proposed Bylaw amendment would expand proposed provincial regulations regarding consumption in public places.  We want to hear what the community thinks of the proposed guidelines, and invite you to attend a Public Open House to learn about the proposed bylaw changes, and provide your feedback on the topic.

Thursday, September 20
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Forest Interpretive Centre
3002 – 33 Street, Whitecourt

Reroofing of the Scott Safety Centre and Carlan Services Community Resource Centre will begin soon.  Council awarded tenders for the projects to CCS Contracting and West point Roofing respectively.

The Whitecourt Fire Department has been selected by the Office of the Fire Commissioner to host one of the Province’s Structural Protection Trailers that will serve our region.   The trailer contains sprinklers, hoses, and auxiliary equipment that would be required to protect structures during a fire.  The Whitecourt Fire Department will be training members to the provincial standard for the structural protection program, and if required will deploy a 2 or 3-member team to neighbouring communities when required.

Councillor Matt Connell has been appointed Deputy Mayor from September 1 through December 31, 2018.
