Youth Development Programs

The Town of Whitecourt employs a Youth Development Coordinator to develop community partnerships and provde support to non-profit organizations that offer preventative social programming for youth and families.  The Coordinator also acts as an information referral service, and offers information on a wide variety of community programs and services.

Whitecourt Youth Interagency

A committee of youth-serving community agencies and organizations that meets every second month from September to June to identify and better meet the needs of youth through collaborative efforts.

P.A.R.T.Y. Program

A collaborative effort with emergency services (RCMP, fire and ambulance) and health services (health promotion) that endorses five key messages while promoting smart risk and decision-making in youth.

In-School Mentoring Program

A school-based progrma that teams community adult volunteers with an elementary aged child, fostering success in the child physically, socially and academically through fun weekly activities.  Training is provided for volunteers.

Spirit of Youth Program

An annual award reception that celebrates the positive contributions of community teens.

Youth Advisory Committee

A committee of community youth that meet four to six times annually, and liaise with Town Council representatives to ensure the needs and voice of other community youth are communicated.  Youth are also responsible for promoting awareness of youth services and programs in their schools.

Block Parent Association

Provides greater protection to children and adults in the community through its community window sign project and educational awareness.

Fee Assistance Programs

  • Canadian Tire Jumpstart - A community chapter that identifies and provides financial support allowing financially disadvantaged children the opportunity to participate in organized sport and recreational activities.  Chapter members include: Family Community Liaison, RCMP, Alberta Health Services - Health Promotion, Boys & Girls Club, Early Childhood Development/Parent Link and Community Services.
  • KidSport - A local committee of volunteers raises funds to provide financial support to children 0-18 in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
