Committee Achievements
Party In The Park
The first annual Party In The Park kicked off in 2007. Party In The Park, hosted by the Joint Economic Development Committee, offers an afternoon of music and entertainment the entire family can enjoy. It is the Committee's goal to host the event annually, and that local organizations partner in the organization of this exciting community affair. Party In The Park featured a number of local artists and talent and was headlined by the Canadian band “Trooper” in 2007, "April Wine" in 2008, "Streetheart" in 2009, and 54-40 in 2010. Watch for details in the coming months on this year’s Party In The Park!
Partnership with the Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club
In 2005, Whitecourt received the trademark distinction of being the “Snowmobile Capital of Alberta.” Since receiving this recognition, the Joint Economic Development Committee has work with the Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club to promote the region and the array of opportunities we have to offer to those who enjoy the sport of snowmobiling. The Committee partnered with the Club to purchase new trail grooming equipment to ensure our trails are in top-notch condition, and in addition to its annual contribution of funds to assist with ongoing trail maintenance. The Committee is a proud partner of the Trailblazers Snowmobile Club in hosting Western Canada’s largest snowmobile rally and looks forward to working with the Club in promoting Whitecourt and Woodlands County as snowmobile adventure destination.
Partnership with the Whitecourt Riverboat Association
The Joint Economic Development Committee works with the Whitecourt Riverboat Association in the coordination of events at the annual Jetboat Races and in hosting the World Jetboat Races every 4 years. The Committee recently applied for and received grant funding on behalf of the Association for the purchase of bleachers to enhancement spectators’ enjoyment at the annual event. The Committee will continue to partner with the Whitecourt Riverboat Association to organize the annual race event and to promote the 2011 World Jetboat Races that will be hosted in Whitecourt.
