Affordable Housing and Secondary Suite Grant Program

The Affordable Housing and Secondary Suite Grant program was established with the goal of increasing the number of affordable housing units within Whitecourt.  The Program provides grants to homeowners to build new or bring existing secondary suites to Alberta Building Code.  The grant will provide 70% of construction costs, up to $10,000, to approved applicants. 

Community Business Beautification Grant

The Community Business Beautification Grant was established by the Communities In Bloom Committee to offer local businesses and organizations additional financial support to improve the exterior appearance of their business or property.

The objectives of this grant are:

  • To assist local businesses and organizations (churches, non-profit societies, community groups) to contribute to the beautification of Whitecourt.
  • To enhance the quality of life and wellbeing for the residents of Whitecourt by increasing the aesthetic appeal of streets and neighbourhoods.

To assist businesses or organizations to make permanent upgrades to their property.  Funding for the 2011 program year has been awarded.  Application information for the 2012 year will be announced in the spring of 2012.

Community and Tourism Enhancement Grant

The Joint Economic Development and Tourism Committee, for the Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County, has developed a grant program to enhance and encourage partnerships with local non-profit organizations.  The Community and Tourism Enhancement Grant Program offers financial assistnace to local community groups for projects or events that enhance tourism development in the Whitecourt and Woodlands County area.  Applications are accepted annually.  The 2012 application deadline will be announced in the fall. 

Enhancement Grant

The Whitecourt Enhancement Grant was established to offer community organizations and groups additional assistance to develop community events or enhancements. Enhancement Grant applications are accepted semi-annually.  The application deadline for this grant was September 30, 2011.

The objectives of this grant are:

  • To provide funding to local organizations for the enhancement of programs, services, special events, specialized equipment or facilities that are not normally funded through their annual budget.
  • To enhance the quality of life and wellbeing for the residents of Whitecourt and Woodlands County.
  • To enhance sport, recreation, culture, family life or general community development.
  • To promote and encourage volunteerism and community spirit by enhancing the work of local volunteer organizations.
  • To provide a funding source for programs, services, events, facilities or equipment that is not eligible for funding from other municipal, provincial or federal sources of funding.

Family Community Support Services (FCSS) Grant

The Town of Whitecourt FCSS Grant Program provides assistance to community organizations that plan to provide social programs that are preventive in nature to the community.  Funding for the 2011 program year has been awarded.  The deadline to apply for the 2012 program is December 30, 2011.  For more information please contact the Community Services Department at 780-778-6300.

To be eligible for consideration, projects must meet one or more of the following FCSS mandates:

  • Enhance, strengthen and stabilize community life.
  • Improve the ability of persons to identify and act on their own social needs.
  • Help avert family or community social breakdown.
  • Help prevent the development of crisis situations for individuals and families.
  • Promote and support volunteerism.
  • Support the development of children, youth, adults and families.

Investing In Our Community

Investing In Our Community is a new capital funding program developed by the Town of Whitecourt to enhance partnerships with local non-profit organizations. The proposed program will provide interest free loans to non-profit organizations to assist in leveraging their resources for community capital investments that benefit the community.  Applications to this program are accepted year-round.

Tourism Product Development Grant

Have you ever thought about organizing mountain bike tours through the region?  Or have you ever thought that offering jet boat tours would be an interesting summer job?  Or, maybe you have an interest in bird watching and want to take visitors along on birding expeditions.  You could be eligible for up to $2,500 to assist with start up costs including: advertising, capital investments, wages, and other related operational expenses.

The Town of Whitecourt is now accepting applications to the Tourism Product Development Grant Program.  The program was developed to help support the development of tourism based products and services. 

All applications must include a letter of interest or business plan detailing the project, noting the sustainability and potential growth of the business, as well as a description of what the funds will be used for.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, or have a guardian's signature on the letter of interest.  A certificate of insurance must also be provided prior to funds being released.  Completed applications must be received at the below location prior to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7.
