Press Release - Whitecourt Town Council Update - July 24, 2020
Signature Contractors Windsor, Inc. has been awarded the contract to construct Festival Way in Whitecourt’s Rotary Park. Festival Way will be a serviced pedestrian pathway designed for hosting arts, culture and family events. Construction on the project is scheduled to start this August.
Whitecourt has been awarded a grant to replace the existing ice plant at the Scott Safety Centre with a low volume ammonia system that will provide environmental and safety benefits. It is anticipated that the new ice plant will be installed in the spring of 2021.
The Town of Whitecourt has prepared an overall drainage plan for the West Whitecourt Industrial Area to control and manage overland drainage. The plan provides a flexible phasing option which will be integrated into the municipality’s 20 Year Capital Plan.
The 2020 Project List and Quarterly Financial Report have been adopted as information by Council. Both reports are available for viewing on Whitecourt’s website at www.whitecourt.ca/Government/News-Events/Publications-Reports.
An update on the financial impact COVID-19 has had on Whitecourt was presented to Council at its July 20, 2020 meeting. It is estimated that the net financial impact for the pandemic to the Town of Whitecourt to the end of 2020 will be a deficit of $405,165. The impact of COVID-19 will continue to be monitored and an update will be brought back for Council in the fall of 2020. Land Use Bylaw 1506 has been amended to add “Funeral Home” as a Discretionary Use in the Business Industrial Land Use District.
A Special Meeting of Council was held July 22, 2020 to discuss the Regional Business Park Feasibility Study Phase 2 Update. The project, which is a partnership endeavor with Woodlands County, will help to determine the current and future demands to remain viable as well as promote responsible and sustainable industrial development.

The Anthony Gordon Memorial Golf Classic will be held on Monday, August 24 at the Whitecourt Golf & Country Club. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Eagle Tower Victim Services. To register, contact 780-779-5924.
