Canadian Voyageur Brigade Events
The Athabasca River Brigade group has over 170 paddlers registered in 15 boats preparing to paddle 333 kilometres over 6 days on the Athabasca River. They will travel from Jasper to Ft. Assiniboine, and will be re-enacting the Voyageur fur-trading trips of the past on this portion of the Columbia Express route. Each canoe will be flying a flag representing the parts of Canada.
On June 27, the group is hosting a landing ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at Whitecourt's Riverboat Park. This is a free family event. Later that evening, at Rotary Park, the Athabasca River Brigade is hosting a celebration from 5-8pm. The event will feature Metis folk/country performer Laura Vinson, food, crafts, black musket group,cannons and more. A free BBQ will also be offered.
