Whitecourt Town Council passed the Tax Rate Bylaw 1547 at the April 23 Regular Meeting of Council. Property owners can expect to receive combined assessment and taxation notices in mid-May, well ahead of the Friday, June 28 deadline. The 2019 Budget required a 2.64% increase to the municipal tax rate. The 2019 Budget Report will be published next week, and
will provide details on the budget, how property taxes are calculated, and how tax dollars have been allocated for 2019. If you have questions about your tax notice, or the 2019 Budget, please contact the Town Office.

Whitecourt Town Council approved the 2018 Financial Statement for the year end of December 31, 2018. A presentation was made by the Town’s auditor, Edward Telford from Metrix Group, who reported that the consolidated financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the consolidated financial position of the Town of Whitecourt as of December 31, 2018.

Whitecourt Town Council has approved the purchase of a Pierce Ascendant Aerial Platform Engine at the cost of $1,931,470.  As per the 2001 Fire Protection Master Plan, it was identified that an aerial platform engine would be an asset within our fire service area, and would replace the 1990 Pumper Truck.

Whitecourt awarded $30,000 in funding to local community groups as part of the 2019 Enhancement Grant Program. The grant offers community arts, culture, and recreation organizations assistance to start up or develop new community events or enhance existing facilities and programs. Whitecourt Town Council encourages the citizens of Whitecourt to recognize April 28, 2019, as Workers’ Compensation Board National Day of Mourning. In 2018, 162 Alberta workers died from workplace injury or illness, leaving behind family and friends who must go on without them. By commemorating the day, we will honour those injured or killed on the job, and
increase awareness of work-related injuries and illnesses.

Councillor Paul Chauvet has been appointed Deputy Mayor from May 1 to June 30, 2019.
