Press Release - Whitecourt Town Council Update May 29, 2019

Whitecourt has received $100,000 from the Enabling Accessibility Fund Grant to complete the Rotary Park Accessible Pathway Connection Project.  The project was identified as a priority for Rotary Park during the development of the Sportsfield Master Plan.  The project includes the construction of an accessible pedestrian pathway that will provide spaces for community groups and organizations to set up tents and displays during local events (e.g. Farmers Markets, Party In The Park, Canada Day).  The spaces will connect to power; the pathway will include lighting; and charging stations will be installed for mobility devices.  

The contract for the 2019 Street Improvement Program has been awarded to E-Construction.   The Program includes rehabilitation of roadways and the paved trail network, utility cut restoration work, and the Driveway Replacement Program. Information on the construction schedule and locations will be posted online at www.whitecourt.ca and on Whitecourt’s Facebook page as details are confirmed.

The 2019 20-Year Capital Plan has been adopted. The Plan, which includes 132 projects, provides a vision for the long- term development of Whitecourt’s infrastructure; land development; parks and trails; and, building and recreational/cultural facilities to meet the needs of our growing community. The Plan incorporates projects and timelines identified through engineering studies, planning sessions, workshops, budget deliberations, and public engagement activities. 

The Vitalization Grant Program assists property owners in the downtown core and along the Highway 43 corridor to upgrade the façade of their building to meet the stone and wood architectural theme of the Whitecourt Vitalization Plan.   Since the program’s inception, $142,000 has been allocated to local enhancements projects valued at over $1.2 million.  The following businesses have been awarded funds under the 2019 program:

  • CDR Developments Inc. to install cedar accent boards and stone at 4819 50 Avenue.
  • Hendrickson Black Chartered Professional Accountants to install additional stone to the storefront of 5011 50 Avenue.
