Press Release - Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County Extend Fire Services Agreement

The Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County have mutually agreed to extend the fire protection services portion of the Intermunicipal Cost-Share Agreement to March 31, 2020. Community safety and wellbeing are a top priority for both municipalities, and extending the provision of fire protection services will assure all residents and stakeholders continue to be provided this essential service until new agreements between the municipalities are adopted.

The Town and the County continue to work collaboratively to achieve agreements that are of mutual benefit, sustainable, and support the quality of life for all residents in the region.

“Whitecourt Town Council recognizes that the safety and confidence of residents and the business community is essential for our region,” stated Whitecourt Mayor Maryann Chichak.  “We will continue to work in good faith on all agreements to ensure and instill investor confidence in our region for both the short and long term.”

“Woodlands County Council is appreciative of our administration team getting negotiations back on track and making progress to reach fair, equitable, and sustainable agreements that create prosperity for the region. Fire services is a key component to these negotiations and the extension allows discussions to continue positively and productively,” commented Mayor Burrows.
