Press Release - Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Whitecourt - March 24, 2020
The Town of Whitecourt thanks residents for helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and following the Province of Alberta’s advice regarding physical distancing. Social and physical distancing should be practiced at all times – whether that be at the grocery store, while out on a walk, or at a local playground. Per Alberta Health Services’ recommendation, a two metre distance should be maintained during all activities.
At this time, Whitecourt playgrounds and parks remain open. Per the Alberta Chief Medical Officer’s advice, if you are considering going to an outdoor playground, it is recommended that you clean your and your child’s hands with hand sanitizer at the end of your playground visit before travelling home, and immediately washing your and your child’s hands with warm soapy water when you get home.
A number of public health measures have been put in place by the Government of Alberta to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of Albertans. Some of the restrictions include: limitations to no more than 50 attendees for mass gatherings; closure of public recreational facilities and private entertainment facilities; and restricted capacity at certain food establishments. For a complete list of preventative measures implemented by the Province visit www.alberta.ca/covid19. Recently, a complaint process was established to provide a system for Albertans to submit complaints to Alberta Health Services’ public health inspectors. If you are concerned that an establishment is not following the orders under the public health emergency, a complaint can be made at https://ephisahs.microsoftcrmportals.com/create-case/
