Press Release - COVID-19 Update for Whitecourt January 5, 2021

It was announced in statistics provided by the Government of Alberta on January 4, 2021 that a Whitecourt resident has passed away due to COVID-19.  Whitecourt Town Council and the Town of Whitecourt extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of this individual.  Due to privacy considerations, no other details about the deceased will be released.

The death of this resident is a reminder of the seriousness of COVID-19 and our community’s need to continue to follow all preventative health measures and guidelines, including physical distancing, wearing a mask in all indoor and enclosed public places and vehicles, following good hand hygiene practices, and staying home when sick.    For tips on how you can protect yourself and others visit www.alberta.ca/prevent-the-spread.aspx.

Social gatherings have been identified as the top source of transmission; and indoor and outdoor gatherings are currently prohibited.  Residents are reminded that, per the Government of Alberta’s stronger public health measures, gatherings are restricted to the people within the same household.  Those who live alone are allowed to have up to two close contacts for in-person visiting, with those two people remaining the same for the duration of the restriction period.  For more information on current public health measures please visit https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx#toc-1.
