Press Release - Whitecourt Town Council Update January 12, 2021
Whitecourt Town Council will be forwarding a letter to Woodlands County Council offering to withdraw the notice of termination on the Water and Wastewater Agreement. In August 2019, Whitecourt provided Woodlands County with notice of termination of the agreement. The termination is scheduled to take effect August 29, 2021; however, based on concerns cited by area residents and businesses, the Town does not want to leave County ratepayers without water service. Woodlands County will have to formally accept this offer to withdraw the termination notice, and agree to continue the partnership as outlined in the terms of the Water and Wastewater Agreement agreed to in 2013.
Whitecourt Town Council has adopted bylaws to allow for the annual preparation of a supplementary assessment roll and issuance of supplementary assessment tax notices for properties constructed during the calendar year. In the past, the Town of Whitecourt has had to complete the process annually; however, as part of the Province’s red tape reduction strategy, municipalities can now pass bylaws that will remain in effect until amended or repealed – alleviating the annual administrative process.
