Press Release - COVID-19 Update for Whitecourt February 2, 2021

As announced by the Government of Alberta on January 29, a roadmap for easing public health restrictions has been developed that outlines the sectors that will see gradual restriction changes over the coming weeks.  Movement through each step will be based on hospitalization benchmarks set by the Province; moving between steps will happen at least three weeks apart to assess the impact on cases.

A Path Forward

Step 1 of the Province’s path forward will come into effect February 8, 2021 and will see restrictions eased for restaurants, children’s school-related sport and performance activities, and indoor fitness facilities.  For details please visit www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx#Step1

As the easing of restrictions for indoor fitness allows one-on-one training for individuals or households by appointment only, the Allan & Jean Millar Centre and Scott Safety Centre will remain closed until further notice.  Allan & Jean Millar Centre members can continue to participate in online classes via the Allan & Jean Millar Centre Members Only Workout group on Facebook.  Annual and continuous monthly memberships will be placed on hold during this time; scheduled electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments will continue to be suspended for February 2021.

The Whitecourt Public Library and Forest Interpretive Centre remain closed to the general public, and access to the Carlan Services Community Resource Centre will remain limited until further notice.

Mandatory Restrictions

All other mandatory restrictions will remain in place until further notice, including:

  • All indoor social gatherings – public and private – are prohibited.
  • Province-wide mandatory indoor public masking requirement.
  • Retail restrictions (on occupancy limits) and continued business closures (i.e. movie theatres, recreation centres)
  • Mandatory work from home measures.

All Albertans, businesses, organizations and service providers must continue to follow existing health measures: www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx
