Press Release - COVID-19 Update for Whitecourt September 3, 2021

The Government of Alberta announced today the following COVID-19 measures:
 
Masking

  • Mandatory restriction – effective September 4 at 8am 
    • The Province has announced that masks are mandatory in all indoor public spaces and workplaces. Employees must wear a mask in all indoor work settings, except in work stations or where 2 metre physical distancing or adequate barriers are in place. Schools are not required to implement masking, but school boards will continue to set COVID-19 management policies as they deem appropriate. 
    • For guests of the Allan & Jean Millar Centre:
      • Masks must be worn upon entering the facility until you reach the area you will be active in.  Masks can then be removed while working out or playing a sport.  Please put masks back on after you are done the activity and when leaving the facility.

Restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and nightclubs

  • Mandatory restriction - Effective September 4 at 8am
    • Alcohol service must end at 10pm in all licensed establishments.

Social gatherings

  • Recommended measure – Effective September 4 at 8am
    • Albertans are encouraged to limit in-person contacts.
    • Unvaccinated Albertans are strongly recommended to limit indoor social gatherings to close contacts of only 2 cohort families up to a maximum of 10 people.

Working from home

  • Recommended measure – Effective September 4 at 8am
    • Employers are recommended to continue work-from-home measures and pause plans to have staff return to work.

Testing

  • COVID-19 testing for Albertans with symptoms remains available at assessment centres.
  • Asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended.
  • A wastewater baseline testing program will be launched to provide area trend information and monitor variants of concern. More details will be released in the coming weeks.

Isolation and quarantine requirements

  • Isolation is still legally required for people who have COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive.
  • Quarantine is no longer legally required for close contacts positive cases, unless directed to do so by local public health officials.
  • International travellers must still follow federal travel requirements.  Isolation hotels and quarantine supports are no longer available.

Contact tracing and case investigation

  • Individuals with positive tests will continue to be notified.
  • Contact tracers will not notify close contacts of positive cases, but will ask that individuals do so when informed of their positive result.
  • Contact tracers will continue to investigate cases in high-risk settings, such as acute and continuing care.

Vaccination Program

  • All Albertans 12+ can book now for a COVID-19 vaccination.  As announced on September 3,
  • the Province is offering a one-time incentive of $100 for all Albertans 18+ who receive a first
