Press Release - Whitecourt Town Council Update December 3, 2018
Whitecourt Town Council has provided a letter of support to AltaLink for its application for federal grant funding for the proposed Battery Energy Storage Project planned for the Whitecourt area. The project, valued at $26 million, would provide an additional source of electricity to our region, and would defer or eliminate the need for a transmission project.
Whitecourt Town Council provided first reading to Bylaw 1544 which would provide a loan to the Whitecourt Golf & Country Club Society. The amount to be loaned would be to a maximum of $40,000, repaid with 2.45% interest over a period of two years. The loan will provide financial assistance to the Golf Club to meet operating expenditures until next season.
Whitecourt Town Council has rezoned 4803 – 55 Avenue to medium density residential and added “Corporate Head Office” as a discretionary use to Highway Commercial Land Use District. The new zoning accommodates existing use and density, and the inclusion of “Corporate Head Office” to the district is a positive change for future development.
