Press Release - Whitecourt Town Council Update May 14, 2019
Whitecourt Mayor Maryann Chichak travelled to Ottawa May 1 and 2 with members of the Coalition of Canadian Municipalities for Energy Action to discuss concerns with Bill C-69. Bill C-69, if passed in its current form, will change how major infrastructure projects, including energy projects, will be reviewed and approved in Canada. The Coalition attended meetings with Members of Parliament and Senators from both the Liberal and Conservative Caucuses to highlight concerns regarding the lack of adequate consultation and communication on Bill C-69, and the potential negative impact the legislation could have on local economies and families. The Coalition has launched a website that provides information on the topic and includes a venue for constituents to send their feedback to decision makers on C-69. Visit www.energytowns.ca for more information.
Seniors’ Week 2019 is June 3 to 8, and Whitecourt will be hosting a number of events and activities to celebrate local seniors. A listing of events and activities planned throughout the week is posted on www.whitecourt.ca and can be found by searching “Seniors’ Week”.
Council has granted approval for street closures for the following events:
