Press Release - COVID-19 Update for Whitecourt November 27, 2020

As announced on November 24, Alberta has declared a Public Health Emergency to protect the health care system from COVID-19.  Indoor social gatherings have been identified as the top source of transmission, and all indoor social gatherings have been banned across the province.  Community members are asked to follow public health restrictions, and continue to follow other preventative health measures, including practicing good hygiene, physical distancing, and following provincial testing and isolation requirements when sick.

Whitecourt is currently listed as “open” on the COVID-19 Relaunch Status Map.  Should caseloads increase to 10 active cases, enhanced measures would come into effect in the Town of Whitecourt and our community would be shaded purple on the COVID-19 Relaunch Status Map.  The map is available for viewing on the Province’s website at

Community members are encouraged to refer to for up to date information on restrictions that are in effect within town, and to follow Whitecourt on Facebook for the most recent updates for our community.

Whitecourt Bylaw 1560 remains in effect, and face coverings are required in all indoor, enclosed public spaces and public vehicles.  For information on how to properly choose and wear a non-medical mask visit

ABTraceTogether App

As our province works to prevent the spread of COVID-19, people across Alberta are asked to download the ABTraceTogether App.  ABTraceTogether is a mobile contact tracing app that helps to let you know if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 – or if you’ve exposed others – while protecting your privacy.  Quickly identifying and isolating positive cases is an important part of Alberta’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and preventing the spread.  The more Albertans who voluntarily download and use the app, the safer we’ll be, and the faster we can reopen the economy.  ABTraceTogether has been updated, and is directly integrated into our contract tracing system, making it the most effective tool for reducing the spread of COVID-19.  Download the app on the App Store or Google Play.  For more information on the app visit

COVID-19 information and updates are publicly available on the Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services websites:
