Notice of Election and Requirements for Voter Identification

FORM 7                                                                      NOTICE OF ELECTION AND REQUIREMENTS
For VOTER IDENTIFICATION

Local Authorities Election Act
(Sections 12, 35, 46, 53, 74)

LOCAL JURISDICTION:    TOWN OF WHITECOURT, PROVINCE OF ALBERTA

Notice is hereby given:

A. That an election will be held for the filling of the following offices:

Office(s) Number of Vacancies
Mayor 1
Councillor 6

B.  That an election will be held for the election of a Senate nominee for the purposes of the Alberta Senate Election Act.

C.   That a vote of the electors will be held on the following referendum question(s) under the Referendum Act.

  1. Equalization – Should Section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 – Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments – be removed from the constitution?
  2. Daylight Saving Time – Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Voting will take place on the 18th day of October, 2021, between the hours of 10:00am and 8:00pm.  The Voting Station will be located at:

6240 – 47 Street
WHITECOURT, Alberta

If you are unable to attend the Voting Station on October 18, you can attend an Advance Vote on either October 13, 2021 or October 16, 2021.  Advance Voting Stations have been scheduled from 10:00am to 7:00pm at:

WHITECOURT, Alberta

Institutional Votes will also be held at the Spruceview Lodge, Whitecourt Health Care Centre and Woodlands Villa for residents and patients.  Notices of voting times will be posted at the individual locations.

To vote, you MUST produce identification for inspection.  This identification must confirm both the name and address of the elector (voter).  Preferred identification is an Alberta Operator’s (Driver’s) Licence or Identification Card (for non-drivers).  Other forms of authorized identification with both the elector’s name and current residential address are:

  • Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque;
  • Government cheque or cheque stub;
  • Income/property tax assessment notice;
  • Utility bill (telephone, television, power, gas, or water);
  • Vehicle insurance certificate;
  • Statement of government benefits (employment insurance, old age security, social assistance, disability support, child tax benefit); and
  • Attestation of Residence issued by the responsible authority of a supportive living facility or treatment centre, a shelter, or soup kitchen.

as required by Section 53 of the Local Authorities Election Act.
