In an act of solidarity, the Town of Whitecourt raised the Ukrainian flag at Memorial Point today.
The flag is flying as a show of support to the citizens of Ukraine, and those with Ukrainian heritage living in the community.
“Flying the Ukrainian flag is just one way for Whitecourt to show its support to the people impacted by this crisis,” stated Whitecourt Mayor Tom Pickard. “Many in our community want to help, and there are opportunities for individuals to donate to humanitarian assistance being organized by national and local organizations.”
The Government of Canada announced it will match donations made to the Canadian Red Cross to help bring humanitarian relief to Ukraine. Donations made by March 18 will be matched.
A number of local churches are also accepting donations in support of Ukraine.
