Whitecourt Transit encompasses a variety of services and programs, and includes Public Transit and Dial-A-Bus service. See below for more information.

Public Transit offers a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and convenient alternatives for getting around town.

The route provides service throughout the valley and hilltop areas of Whitecourt, and follows a loop throughout town that takes approximately one hour to complete.   The buses are low floor accessible with no steps, and can accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, walkers and strollers.  

  • Monday to Thursday: 6:30 a.m. to  8:44 p.m.
  • Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 7:44 p.m.
  • Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:44 p.m.
  • No bus service on Sundays and statutory holidays..

Advertising with Public Transit

Get noticed by advertising with Public Transit.  Space is currently available. Contact the Transit Coordinator at 780-778-3637 ext. 429 or email transit@whitecourt.ca for more information on advertising rates and options.

  • Transit Advertisement Guide
  • Exterior advertising is available on the back of 3 buses for semi-annual or annual terms at a cost of $500 per month (just $5,500 per year per bus).  

  • There are five bus shelters with space available for semi-annual or annual terms at a cost of $300-$400 per month (location dependent).  

  • Interior advertising is available for $60-$200 per month.

Dial-A-Bus is a section of Whitecourt Transit that provides specialized, accessible, to-the-door services, within the corporate limits of Whitecourt, for individuals with physical or cognitive impairments who are unable to access Public Transit stops.  To be eligible for the program individuals must be over 65 years, and/or receiving AISH benefits, or have a mental or physical disability that has been assessed by a doctor. 

All individuals who require the use of Dial-A-Bus service must complete a Dial-A-Bus application form and have an assessment completed by a physician.  Physicians will only approve individuals who are not able to access Public Transit stops due to a physical or a cognitive impairment.

Eligible individuals can ride the Dial-A-Bus:

  • Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  (The last pickup will be at 2:45 p.m.)

  • Cash: $3.00 one-way fee (GST included)

  • Voucher: One voucher per one-way ride

  • Monthly Pass: $40.00/month.  Can also be used on Public Transit.

You must be a registered user to ride the Dial-A-Bus.  Applications can be picked up at Guest Services at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre or downloaded from the link below.

The Transportation Grant Program for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities is a transportation voucher program that provides 12 vouchers twice per year to qualified recipients.  Vouchers can be used in lieu of fare on Public Transit, in a taxi (restrictions apply) and in the Dial-A-Bus (restrictions apply).  Taxi use is only permitted when Public Transit and/or Dial-A-Bus are not operating.

  • Voucher: Taxi Cab - One voucher plus a $3.65 (GST included) fee (substituting additional tickets for the $3.65 fee is not accepted).

  • Voucher: Dial-A-Bus - One voucher only per one-way ride. If you do not have a voucher, there is a $3.00 (no GST) one way fee.

  • Voucher: Whitecourt Public Transit - One voucher only per one-way ride. If you do not have a voucher, there is a $3.00 (no GST) one way fee.

  • Monthly Passes - Monthly bus passes are available for use on Public Transit and Dial-A-Bus.
