Fitness Attendants are responsible for the provision of exceptional customer service, providing fitness centre orientations and information, maintaining and cleaning of fitness and wellness equipment and assisting with program opportunities in the desired area of fitness and wellness for guests.  

Key Duties:
• Work as a member of the Allan & Jean Millar Centre team to promote and support exceptional guest experiences.
• Supervise and manage the daily operations of the Pembina Fitness Centre.
• Keep all fitness equipment and fitness area clean and maintained.
• Uphold fitness centre policies and procedures, ensuring safe practices.
• Greet guests with the goal of creating a fun and encouraging atmosphere
• Provide equipment orientations for new or returning guests.
• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Assist fitness instructors with the setup and take down of equipment.

Qualifications:
• A dynamic and outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills;

• Experience in fitness and/or recreation facilitation and programming would be an asset;

 Our organization now has openings in the Community Services Department for casual Facility Monitor/Program Leader I positions.  The Allan & Jean Millar Centre offers a wide variety of programs, and includes a fieldhouse, aquatic centre, fitness centre, track, child play and mind areas, and meeting space. 

The Facility Monitor/Program Leader I is responsible for monitoring the facility, setting up and cleaning up of the fieldhouse, maintaining fieldhouse equipment, and engaging guests in fieldhouse activities.  The position is casual and located at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.  The Town of Whitecourt is committed to its employees and provides a competitive salary.

Reports to: Recreation Program Coordinator

Key Duties will include:

Subject to established policy, the Facility Monitor/Program Leader I will:
• Work as a member of the Allan & Jean Millar Centre team to promote and support exceptional guest experiences.
• Set-up equipment, ensure user groups are using the assigned space within the facility, distribute Fieldhouse equipment to facility members, transition Fieldhouse between events and complete basic maintenance of equipment including inventory.
• Facilitate children’s programming such as summer camps and after school programs, and special events.
• Greet guests and ensure any required information is given and received from members and guests.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment for guests. Perform janitorial and basic maintenance duties as per procedures (Fieldhouse, Go Active Zone, Classroom, Boardroom, Courts and Main Corridor).
• Monitor specific areas of the Allan & Jean Millar Centre and handle any public relations situations that may arise. Ensure guests are following facility rules.
• Engage youth and families in Fieldhouse activities.
• Work with the Community Services team to achieve departmental goals.
• Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

• 15 years of age;
• A dynamic, outgoing personality with excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset;
• Security clearance;
• Experience working with the public.

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the Town's safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.


Primary Responsibilities:

•    Reporting to the Director of Community Safety, this position plans, implements and oversees the Town's safety programs. 
•    Engage in developing policies, conduct safety training, perform inspections, and promote a safety culture for all employees. 
•    Assess risk, provide coaching and training, and develop resources to prevent financial and operational losses and reduce workplace injuries and illnesses. 
•    Assist in developing and implementing risk management strategies to prevent accidents and injuries.
•    Collaborate with the town’s leadership to address and rectify safety issues 
•    Interpret and apply evolving safety regulations to the workplace.
•    Oversee and manage the Town's safety program.
•    Ability to bring and maintain the Town’s safety program to compliance with Certificate of Recognition (COR).
•    Ensure the process is followed for any safety investigation. 
•    Responsible for managing, updating and supporting the Town's activities related to Safe Work Practices, safety policies and procedures, and worksite hazard assessments. 
•    Oversee the delivery of the Town's Health and Safety Manual. 
•    Document and report on findings from investigations or inspections, recommending corrective actions where necessary. 
•    Conduct internal audits and assist in external audits related to health and safety. 
•    Update safety polices in regard to the Town's Health and Safety Manual. 
•    Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety programs in compliance with Alberta OHS legislation. 
•    Regularly auditing risk assessments and hazard identification for municipal employee tasks, facilities, equipment, and job sites. 
•    Coordinate with Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and other agencies as required. 
•    Assist in investigations, accidents, and near misses. 
•    Participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
•    Maintain training records to ensure employee certifications or competencies are current. 
•    Serves as the primary liaison with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety. 
•    Conduct drills and simulations to test emergency procedures. 
•    Develop and implement emergency response plans for Town facilities. 
•    Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, safety training, and compliance activities. 
•    Prepare regular reports on safety performance and compliance. 
•    Manage the Towns SDS database. 
•    Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. 

Qualifications

•    Must possess at least 3 years’ experience in the field of occupational health and safety. 
•    Experience with Certificate of Recognition (COR) would be an asset. 
•    Post-secondary diploma or certification in health and safety. 
•    Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation applicable to municipal operations. 
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft programs and other computer-based programs. 

The Town of Whitecourt offers a competitive compensation package to the successful applicant.  The current salary range for this position is $86,673.95-$96,175.63.  The successful applicant must pass a pre-employment physical and criminal record check.

The Whitecourt Fire Department is housed in a modern facility with excellent equipment and apparatus. Fire Services, working with the RCMP, the Ambulance Service and mutual aid partners, is critical to our community's safety and quality of life. We serve the Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County Fire District 1.

Primary Responsibilities:

•    Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief, this position maintains and operates the firefighting apparatus and equipment.
•    Respond promptly and effectively to emergency incidents in a leadership role, ensuring the safety, coordination, and well-being of all personnel and the public. 
•    Respond safely and efficiently, driving the fire apparatus to emergency scenes, operating equipment, and assisting in firefighting and rescue operations.
•    Participate in the On-Call Duty Officer rotation, responding as required to provide management, supervision and command of emergency incidents. 
•    Support operational readiness of department members, facilities, apparatus, and equipment by assisting with general maintenance and safety inspections as required.
•    Assist the Training Officer in implementing training programs, including Driver/Pump/Aerial Operator courses, technical competency courses, and specialized equipment and process training. 
•    Manage fire equipment, materials inventory, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring all are maintained in good condition, arranging for repairs or replacements, and ordering supplies as required.
•    Participate in community engagement and public education activities.
•    Assist in reviewing, developing, and implementing rules, regulations, procedures, and standard operating guidelines to ensure consistency, safety, and effectiveness in departmental operations.
•    Compile and maintain an inventory of all equipment, materials and resources.
•    Contribute to Fire Department planning and provide training-specific insights and recommendations for the annual operating and capital budgets while offering input on overall department operations and resource allocation.
•    Assist firefighters, officers, operations support, and public education staff as needed.
•    Support professional development through mentorship and coaching to foster career progression and succession planning within the department.
•    Foster and champion a safe, positive, and inclusive work environment.
•    Participate in the Town’s municipal safety program in all aspects and ensure that applicable safety standards and legislative requirements are adhered to.
•    Foster relationships with other emergency services partners to identify and implement collaborative training opportunities and enhance efficiencies.
•    Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. 
Qualifications

•    Must possess at least 3 years’ experience in the Fire Service with experience responding in a leadership capacity.
•    Must have successfully completed NFPA 1001 Level II, NFPA 1041 Level I, NFPA 1002 Driver/Pump/Aerial Operator (ProBoard or IFSAC), and Advanced First Aid.
•    Completion of NFPA 1041 Level II, Live Fire Instructor, NFPA 1021 Level 1, NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer, Basic Safety Codes Officer, Fire Inspector Level I, and ICS 100, 200 would be assets; however, they are required to be obtained during the course of employment. 
•    Must be able to deal effectively with the public and fire department members.
•    Proficiency in computer-based programs, including tracking and records management. 
•    Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership, supervision, and sound judgment under stressful conditions.
•    A valid Alberta 3Q driver's license with a current abstract.

This position is comprised of a rotating schedule of evening and morning shifts for an average of 37.5 hours per week. The rotation typically includes four early morning shifts (5:15am-1:45pm), two days off, and four evening shifts (1:15pm-10:15pm).  Weekend shifts are required including holidays if available.
 
The Guest Services Associate II is responsible for selling and processing memberships, providing front line customer service, inventory control, overseeing special events, supervision of facility staff during their shift, and completing other related administration duties.

    Work as a member of the Allan & Jean Millar Centre team to promote and support exceptional guest experiences. 
    Uphold Allan & Jean Millar Centre policies and procedures, ensuring safe practices.
