The Town of Whitecourt currently has casual positions available with Whitecourt Transit. These positions vary and require early morning, evening, daytime, and weekend shifts, with rotating schedules.

As a Whitecourt Transit Driver you will operate a Whitecourt Transit vehicle with an established route and time schedule with a varying number of stops along the way. Drivers are responsible for collecting fares, responding to customer inquiries concerning transit information, and ensuring the safety of all customers. This position requires attentiveness, good judgment, safe driving habits, exceptional customer service, and an ability to deal with a variety of passengers.

 Successful applicants will have:

  • Class 2 driver's licence;
  • Clean driving record and experience driving bus;
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification;
  • Air brakes endorsement is an asset.

Successful candidates must enjoy working with the public, must have above average inter-personal communications skills, and be able to maintain records and statistics on ridership. Prior to being hired, a vulnerable sector record check, intervention check, and clean drivers’ abstract must be submitted and deemed acceptable to the Employer.

The Town of Whitecourt invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Community Peace Officer Level 1(CPO1). Reporting to the Director of Community Safety, the CPO will provide professional leadership to build, maintain and sustain the Town’s Community Peace Officer and Bylaw enforcement programs. This position plays a vital role in our community with respect to enforcing Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Statutes.

This full-time, permanent position will require the incumbent to occasionally work on weekends, statutory holidays, early mornings and evenings throughout the year. The position requires a competent, self-motivated individual that is passionate about embracing urban community living and making a difference in our community through exceptional conflict resolution, mediation, and communication skills. You must demonstrate respect, patience, integrity, and confidentiality to succeed in this position and represent our municipality in a positive manner while understanding and mitigating concerns.

The successful applicant must be able to:
• Provide friendly education through positive interactions with the public, relating to municipal bylaws.
• Foster crime prevention initiatives and community safety programming.
• Patrol, respond and investigate any nuisances and complaints relating to municipal bylaws and statutes.
• Patrol local roads for non-moving road traffic safety/enforcement in relation to the Traffic Safety Act and other relevant statutes.
• Issue violation tickets and warnings.
• Liaise and collaborate with RCMP officers and other enforcement agencies as part of joint or mutual investigations, or during enforcement of municipal and provincial laws, and assist in emergency/disaster responses under the direction of the Director of Emergency Management as per the Emergency Management Plan.
• Undertake training and professional development to ensure that licensing and permitting requirements are met.
• Ensure accurate reporting and record keeping of statistics as required and/or mandated by the Solicitor General’s Office, Public Security Peace Officer’s program and Town Office.

The successful applicant must have:
• Peace Officer Level 1 (CPO1) Certification or the ability to obtain an appointment as a CPO1 in the Public Security Peace Officer Program in accordance with the Alberta Peace Officer Act and its Regulation within 1 year of employment.
• Have passed, or are able to pass, the Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test within 1 year of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in municipal enforcement or applicable Law Enforcement Experience, is an asset.
• Specialized training in animal control and apprehension, Baton, O.C. Spray, Traffic Enforcement, is an asset.
• A satisfactory Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check and Provincial Drivers Abstract Reports as a condition of employment.
• Understanding of the Alberta Peace Officer Program, the court system and trial process, Peace Officer appointments and jurisdiction, Municipal and Solicitor General Policy and their application.
• Knowledge of Municipal Bylaws, Traffic Safety Act, Municipal Government Act, court and legal process and related regulations.
• Competent computer skills and high attention to detail.
• Physically able to safely conduct long foot patrols and frequent moving in and out of vehicles without causing undue risk of harm to self.

This position offers a salary competitive salary and includes an excellent benefit package and Pension Plan. Hours of work for this position are irregular and may vary by assignment. Length of assignments may range from a few hours to longer terms and may include early mornings/days/evenings and weekends.

This position is responsible for conducting all fleet and small equipment maintenance for the Town of Whitecourt. The Mechanic I reports to the Mechanic III or in their absence the Mechanic II.

Qualifications:
• General knowledge of repair and maintenance of industrial equipment, automotive, equipment for municipal grounds maintenance, and other related small equipment.
• Must have demonstrated knowledge and related experience of equipment maintenance programs and parts inventory systems.
• Must be willing and qualified to apprentice as an Automotive Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• Enrolled in the apprenticeship program is an asset.
• Should possess a valid class 3 Driver’s License; or be willing to take the training required to obtain a class 3 Driver’s License.
• Ability to weld and fabricate.
• Ability to relate in a positive manner to the general public and other employees.
• Must be a self-motivated and energetic individual.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Perform maintenance and servicing on all Town equipment.
• Maintain the mechanic’s workspace in a neat and orderly condition.
• Assist with the maintenance of the shop building and yard facilities.
• Train other employees as necessary on maintenance of equipment.
• Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
