The Town of Whitecourt currently has casual positions available with Whitecourt Transit. These positions vary and require early morning, evening, daytime, and weekend shifts, with rotating schedules.
As a Whitecourt Transit Driver you will operate a Whitecourt Transit vehicle with an established route and time schedule with a varying number of stops along the way. Drivers are responsible for collecting fares, responding to customer inquiries concerning transit information, and ensuring the safety of all customers. This position requires attentiveness, good judgment, safe driving habits, exceptional customer service, and an ability to deal with a variety of passengers.
Successful applicants will have:
• Class 2 driver's licence;
• Clean driving record and experience driving bus;
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification;
• Air brakes endorsement.
Successful candidates must enjoy working with the public, must have above average inter-personal communications skills, and be able to maintain records and statistics on ridership. Prior to being hired, a vulnerable sector record check, intervention check, and clean drivers’ abstract must be submitted and deemed acceptable to the Employer.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain positive and constructive relations with the public and all other contacts encountered on the job.
- Answer phones, greet the public, respond to emails, provide information, and answer general inquiries.
- Prepare and compose routine correspondence, notices, advertisements, and reports for the department.
- Accept permit applications, issue receipts, and perform all filing, photocopying, research, and other clerical duties for the department.
- Act as secretary for the Municipal Planning Commission and Subdivision & Development Appeal Board, and be responsible for scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and preparing correspondence for these boards as required.
- Act as the primary contact for the Whitecourt Cemetery by assisting members of the public with plots, columbarium, and payments; coordinating with Public Works and outside agencies; maintaining all cemetery records for the Town of Whitecourt; and staying abreast of relevant legislation.
- Provide coverage for other department areas during periods of absence.
- Assume other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
As a member of the Planning and Development Department, you will be working as a team to provide timely and accurate information to the public regarding permits and development information. You are an ideal candidate for this position if you are a dynamic, self-motived individual, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Qualifications:
- Completion of high school, supplemented by further education courses focusing on secretarial or administrative skills.
- Must display confidence and sensitivity in working with the general public.
- Strong organizational and clerical skills.
- Competency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to carry out work with minimal supervision.
- Previous experience in a related position would be considered an asset.

Economic Development Assistant

Key duties will include:
- Provide administrative support for the Economic Development Officer, Economic Development Committee, Health Professionals Attraction and Retention Committee, and other Committees that may be established.
- Responsible for preparing rooms, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and preparing correspondence as required.
- Work with, provide assistance to, and promote local groups and major events.
- Coordinate projects and initiatives as per the Strategic Plans, under the direction of the Economic Development Officer.
- Ensure annual Economic Development and Tourism reports / information packages are kept up to date and copies are circulated and available as needed.
- Conduct research for various projects, prepare reports, and provide analysis of potential economic growth indicators and trends as required.
- Coordinate marketing strategies to enhance the department through a variety of avenues including, but not limited, to brochures, paid advertising, and newsletter platform.
- Familiar with social media platforms and trends to develop engaging content for social media posts, campaigns, and promotions.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Town’s Administrative team and will posses the following qualifications:
- Excellent secretarial and clerical skills including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
- Self motivated; well-developed interpersonal and communication skills; well organized, and ability to multi task.
- Strong writing skills with attention to detail.
- Experience and/or education relevant to economic development, business administration, marketing, or a closely related field.
- Market research and/or data collection and analysis experience is an asset.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s licence.
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign or other design software is an asset.
