Eagle Tower Victim Services Unit: Volunteer Advocate

Description of Position:
Volunteers will assist with various in-house projects and fundraising. Wellspring is looking for responsible, trustworthy, dependable volunteers with a positive attitude willing to work under the direction of the shelter supervisor or designate.
Volunteer Role:
Volunteer duties will include gardening, cleaning organizing cupboards, changing bedding, garage clean-up and other duties as required; fundraising (BBQ’s, casino, Walk a Mile). A Criminal Record Check, Oath of Confidentiality, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest agreements are required.
Volunteer Benefits:

NorQuest College: Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) Digital Skills Tutor, Youth Teaching Adults

Description of Position:
We are seeking youth aged 16 - 18 to tutor adults and seniors in basic digital skills.
The CALP at NorQuest will provide trianing and lesson plans so youth are prepared to offer one-on-one tutoring to adult learners in areas such as basic computer or device hardware, Internet safety, using apps, or creating and using email or Social Media.
Volunteer Role:
Participate in training and mentoring with CALP staff at NorQuest (up to approximately 3.5 hours of training)
Offer one-on-one tutoring sessions (with support as needed) once a week, from the end of April until the middle of June 2021.
Volunteer Benefits:
- Gain experience, confidence and leadership skills;
- Get training and support to learn and practice facilitation skills for face-to-face and/or online learning;
- Receive a certificate of participation from ABC Life Literacy Canada and the CALP at NorQuest as proof of their volunteer hours.

Whitecourt In-School Mentoring: Adult Mentor

Position Description:
Mentor provides a positive environment for the development of a one to one relationship between an adult volunteer and a school-aged student. As an adult volunteered referred to as a "mentor" they will have the opportunity to spend one hour an week with a child.
Volunteer Role:
- The focus on the mentor match is centered on improving self-esteem, school interest, and promoting academic achievement for a student.
- Honour their mentoring commitment by ensuring all mentoring dates agreed amount are fullfilled.
- Maintain open communication with the program coordinator if support is needed.
Contact the school each day you are scheduled to to mentor to ensure the student is in
attendance.

Mentoring is a powerful way of lending support to a young person by teaching skills, listening to their perspectives and creating a sense of belonging. Duties include: grounds and road maintenance, general clean up throughout the town, and various labour duties.
PARKS SUMMER LABOURERS – Job #23-004
Duties include: Maintenance of sports fields, parks, town buildings and open spaces. This includes hand mowing, weed whipping, large area mowing, weeding, planting, watering, garbage picking, cleaning washrooms, event setup, and other jobs as needed. Weekend and after hour work is required. Alberta Driver license required. Preference may be given to applicants enrolled in horticulture/landscaping post-secondary related education.
ROTARY PARK ATTENDANTS – Job #23-005
Duties include: Maintenance of Rotary Park. This includes hand mowing, weed whipping, weeding, garbage picking, cleaning washrooms, cleaning benches and picnic areas, cleaning water features, welcoming and answering questions from park visitors, dealing with emergency situations and other jobs as needed. Weekend and evening work required.
UTILITIES SUMMER LABOURER – Job #23-006
Duties include: operating and maintaining the Town’s water and wastewater treatment plants and distribution and collection underground systems, as well as water meter reading and repair.
LANDFILL SUMMER LABOURER – Job #23-007
Duties include: grounds and road maintenance, mowing and trimming grass, painting and other various labour duties, assisting with weigh scale operations.
VISITOR INFORMATION COUNSELLOR – Job #23-008
Duties include: welcoming and directing visitors to the community and points of interest in the region, conducting tours of the Forest Interpretive Centre gallery and Heritage Park, general administrative duties, answering telephone inquiries, stocking and maintaining the visitor information guides and brochures.
SUMMER PROGRAM LEADER – Job #23-009
Duties include: planning and implementing summer programming for children aged 5-15; assisting with special summer events; and various duties within the Allan & Jean Millar Centre.
Applicants for all positions except Job #23-005, Job #23-008 and Job #23-009 must be able to commence full time duties May 1, 2023.
