Description of Position:

Board Members are responsible for enacting the bylaws and assuming legal accountability for the organization, helping to define the Clubs’ vision and ensuring the relevance of the organization's mission, setting out the governing style of the Board, through the preparation, monitoring and updating of governance policies, ensuring the financial viability of the organization, designing strategies for the long-term financial security of the Club by reviewing and approving fund development strategies, ensuring that good community and public relations are maintained, and that the public is kept informed about the operations of the organization.

Volunteer Role:

Board Member’s duties will include attending monthly meetings, attending community events, becoming knowledgeable about the organization, contributing to meetings by expressing your point of view, assuming leadership roles when asked, keeping the Executive Director informed about concerns your community expresses to you, and cooperating with the Executive Director in order to achieve the vision of the organization.

Description of Position:

Volunteers will work with other community members and BGC staff to help plan, organize, and execute community events.

Description of Position:

Field Trip Chaperone’s will attend field trips during the summer, PD days, and weekends with our staff and students.

Description of Position:

We have a variety of volunteer positions within our organization:

• Bottle recycling pick up
• Food delivery
• Bottle sorting
• Yard maintenance

Volunteer Role:

• Bottle Recycling Pick Up - This role could include the use of our organization's vehicle (upon providing a clean driver's abstract) to drive around Whitecourt and surrounding area to collect bottles from our donation bins. Time commitment is 1-3 hours, depending on the route.
• Food Delivery - During the school year, volunteers help deliver food to the schools once or twice a week. Deliveries take up to 1 hour.
• Bottle sorting - Every Tuesday morning, volunteers can help sort bottles in our garage facility. Depending on volume, this could take up to 4 hours.
• Yard maintenance - Cutting grass, weeding flower beds, sweeping decks and concrete in the summer and snow removal in the winter. Time commitment depends on task.
• Special event volunteers - Our main event is our annual Celebration Night, which has various volunteer positions. We also need volunteers throughout the year to help with information booths at various events.

Volunteers will assist with lawn care for seniors and people with physical disabilities.

Volunteer Role:

Many individuals in our community have difficulty maintaining their lawns. Volunteers will provide lawn mowing, and possibly watering, trimming, weeding if necessary. Youth may choose to “adopt” a yard to maintain through the summer months.

Description of Position:

Advocates will provide assistance to victims of crime or trauma in the Whitecourt, Fox Creek and surrounding areas including suitable referrals to other agencies and programs.

Volunteer Role:

Advocates will assist with court preparation and accompaniment for victim witness, Victim Impact Statements, Requests For Restitution, and financial benefits. Advocates will be trained to provide support during and after a crisis including a 35 module training program provided by the Solicitor General. An RCMP security clearance is required.

Volunteer Benefits:

Description of Position:

We are seeking youth aged 16 - 18 to tutor adults and seniors in basic digital skills.

The CALP at NorQuest will provide trianing and lesson plans so youth are prepared to offer one-on-one tutoring to adult learners in areas such as basic computer or device hardware, Internet safety, using apps, or creating and using email or Social Media.

Volunteer Role:

Participate in training and mentoring with CALP staff at NorQuest (up to approximately 3.5 hours of training)

Offer one-on-one tutoring sessions (with support as needed) once a week, from the end of April until the middle of June 2021.

Volunteer Benefits:

• Gain experience, confidence and leadership skills;
• Get training and support to learn and practice facilitation skills for face-to-face and/or online learning;
• Receive a certificate of participation from ABC Life Literacy Canada and the CALP at NorQuest as proof of their volunteer hours.

Position Description:

Mentor provides a positive environment for the development of a one to one relationship between an adult volunteer and a school-aged student. As an adult volunteered referred to as a "mentor" they will have the opportunity to spend one hour an week with a child.

Volunteer Role:

• The focus on the mentor match is centered on improving self-esteem, school interest, and promoting academic achievement for a student.
• Honour their mentoring commitment by ensuring all mentoring dates agreed amount are fullfilled.
• Maintain open communication with the program coordinator if support is needed.
  Contact the school each day you are scheduled to to mentor to ensure the student is in
  attendance.

Description of Position

The Whitecourt Social Experience club, a non-profit organization led by a group of
independent adults with disabilities, seeks an experienced person to assist with operations.
This includes helping with club finances, organizing fundraisers, promoting the organization
to gain new members, and teaching them effective strategies for maintaining success. By
doing so, the club aims to benefit both its members and the broader community.

Volunteer Role

• The successful candidate will attend club meetings once a month, specifically on the third Wednesday of each month, for a maximum of one hour. During this time, they will have the opportunity to interact with club members and observe their operations, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration to develop effective strategies. Additionally, they will provide mentoring and coaching to members to help them achieve their objectives.
• The person will also assist with bookkeeping, finances, ensuring that appropriate
  procedures are followed to maintain non-profit status, and providing tax assistance. Initial organizational efforts will require significant time, but once the finances are settled, the commitment will be a minimum of one to two hours per month, either at the beginning or end of each month. Ultimately, this person will serve as a valuable resource for all club members.
• The club would greatly benefit from the successful candidate's help in promoting it, as well as with fundraisers and volunteer opportunities within the community. The required amount of time for this is flexible and can be discussed at a later time.

Description of Position:

Challenger Baseball is a program, partnered with the Toronto Blue Jays, that allows children
ages 5-17 with cognitive and physical difficulties to play baseball in a fun and safe
environment.

Volunteer Role: 

Each Challenger Athlete is partnered with a Buddy (volunteer) who will help them complete
drills and participate in activities. Knowledge of baseball is NOT required. Buddies need to be
energetic and encouraging. Challenger Coaches support athletes and Buddies to ensure they are working towards their unique and individual goals. Coaches can set up equipment, greet athletes and parents, hand out uniforms, help run games and drills, and help Buddies when needed.

Benefits to Volunteering in Role:

It is so much fun and rewarding. You will be part of an amazing program that helps children with disabilities participate in a sport. For many of our Challenger athletes, this is the only organized program that they are part of. You will help these athletes feel a sense of community, learn about baseball, and have fun while being active. It is an excellent
experience to put on your resume.

4:45 - 6 pm on Tuesdays starting from May 16 - June 20. You can commit to helping as many times as you wish. You can help out at one practice or at all 6!

Additional Information:

You can help out as much as you can. Even if you can only come out to one practice, that
will help our program run. We need one-to-one volunteer Buddies for each of our Challenger Athletes. If we have more volunteers, we can have 2 Buddies with one Athlete.
Having Challenger Coaches (adult helpers) can help us out in so many ways - from helping
put name tags on our participants, doing attendance, setting up equipment, or helping a
Buddy with his athlete, you are needed to help our program run smoothly.

As a Whitecourt Transit Driver you will operate a Whitecourt Transit vehicle with an established route and time schedule with a varying number of stops along the way. Drivers are responsible for collecting fares, responding to customer inquiries concerning transit information, and ensuring the safety of all customers. This position requires attentiveness, good judgment, safe driving habits, exceptional customer service, and an ability to deal with a variety of passengers.

 Successful applicants will have:

• Class 2 driver's licence;
• Clean driving record and experience driving bus;
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification;
• Air brakes endorsement is an asset.

Successful candidates must enjoy working with the public, must have above average inter-personal communications skills, and be able to maintain records and statistics on ridership. The Allan & Jean Millar Centre is a recreation facility that includes a fieldhouse, aquatic center, fitness centre, track, child play and mind areas, and meeting space.  Our organization now has an opening at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre for a casual, Fitness Attendant in the Pembina Fitness Centre. 

Fitness Attendants are responsible for the provision of exceptional customer service, providing fitness centre orientations and information, maintaining and cleaning of fitness and wellness equipment and assisting with program opportunities in the desired area of fitness and wellness for guests. 

Key Duties:

• Work as a member of the Allan & Jean Millar Centre team to promote and support exceptional guest experiences.
• Supervise and manage the daily operations of the Pembina Fitness Centre.
• Keep all fitness equipment and fitness area clean and maintained.
• Uphold fitness centre policies and procedures, ensuring safe practices.
• Greet guests with the goal of creating a fun and encouraging atmosphere
• Provide equipment orientations for new or returning guests.
• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Assist fitness instructors with the setup and take down of equipment.

Qualifications:

• A dynamic and outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills;
• Positive and encouraging attitude;
• Self-motivated and takes pride in a clean workspace;
• Experience in fitness and/or recreation facilitation and programming would be an asset;
• First Aid and CPR; training available for successful candidate;
• Security clearance is a requirement;
• 15 years or older.
