Press Release - Whitecourt Town Council Update

Whitecourt has created a new grant program that will support small businesses and new entrepreneurs. Whitecourt Launch will provide up to $10,000 in financial support to those operating home-based businesses wishing to move to a storefront; entrepreneurs opening a new small business; and/or, existing businesses wanting to expand products/services that are unique and fill identified gaps in our community. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present a “business pitch” in person to the Economic Development Committee. National Volunteer Week begins April 16 and Whitecourt has a variety of initiatives planned to recognize local volunteers. Nominations will be accepted until April 10 for Whitecourt’s Annual Volunteer Awards Program that includes five different award categories. For full details on how you can nominate a local volunteer, visit www.whitecourt.ca. Gift cards will also be provided to community organizations to distribute to their deserving volunteer.

It’s that time of year again - for spring cleaning! Whitecourt is hosting Free Clean Up Week May 9-13, 2023 at the Whitecourt Regional Landfill. Whitecourt is also promoting a town-wide Take It or Leave It initiative, which offers residents the chance for unwanted household items to be reused by others, on May 6 and 7. The 2022 project list as of December 31, 2022 was presented as information to Council. The report outlines capital projects scheduled during the year, and is available for viewing on Whitecourt’s website.

The Whitecourt & District Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual Trade Fair May 13 and 14 at the Whitecourt Twin Arenas. Whitecourt will be represented at three booths this year to promote Whitecourt Tourism, the Whitecourt Fire Department and Communities in Bloom.

Whitecourt Town Council has proclaimed June 17 as Lemonade Day. Community Futures Yellowhead East is hosting the 2023 Lemonade Day event that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand. Whitecourt has declared May 8-12, 2023 as Economic Development Week.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #44 is hosting the District 8 Spring Rally in Whitecourt on April 23. The event includes a parade from the Whitecourt Public Library to the Cenotaph. Details on road closures will be posted closer to the event date.
