Snow crew postpones scheduled snow clearing to address issues caused by spring-like weather

Early spring-like temperatures are causing issues on roads and alleys due to the snow melt.  Based on upcoming weather forecasts, freeze-thaw conditions will continue throughout the week.

Whitecourt crews are working overtime to manage impacts from melting snow.  Scheduled snow removal and clearing projects for February 10 and 11 have been postponed to allow crews to:

  • Clear residential alleys in both the valley and hilltop areas.
  • Release frozen catch basins throughout the community.

Portions of Feero Drive, Chickadee Drive, Athabasca Drive and Virginia Drive were cleared on February 10.  Please follow the Whitecourt Facebook page and website for updates on snow clearing and removal activities.

The Town of Whitecourt appreciates the community’s understanding and patience as we work to manage water issues arising from the current weather conditions.  Residents are asked to:

  • Not shovel snow onto the road – it makes melting conditions worse.
  • Clear and use de-icer on sidewalks adjacent to your property to provide traction for pedestrians.

Outdoor Rinks and Rotary Park Pond

Rotary Park Pond is not safe for use, and community members are advised to stay off the ice.  Outdoor rinks are open; however, current weather conditions do not allow crews to flood rinks and maintain the ice.
