Whitecourt sends firefighters to Yellowknife
Posted on:The Whitecourt Fire Department has deployed four members and one apparatus to assist with fighting wildfires in the Northwest Territories.
“Our conditions and resources allow for us to be able to answer the call to help those in the Northwest Territories,” stated Whitecourt Mayor Tom Pickard. “Just as we have with other communities, Whitecourt has not only extended a hand in firefighting efforts, but we have also assisted by providing a temporary home for those who have been evacuated.”
The Allan & Jean Millar Centre opened as an evacuation centre for Yellowknife residents on August 17, and has assisted over 300 people displaced by the Yellowknife wildfire emergency.
