Whitecourt Town Council Update - March 29, 2022

The Town of Whitecourt is proud to announce that Tehya Ophus and Josiah Moore have been appointed 2022 Mayors for a Day. Both Tehya and Josiah will be accompanying Whitecourt Mayor Pickard throughout his day on April 25 as part of the annual initiative.

Whitecourt Town Council has proclaimed June 18, 2022 as Lemonade Day. Community Futures Yellowhead East is hosting the 2022 Lemonade Day event that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand. The Government of Canada recently signed the first collective agreement with the National Police Federation (NPF), and updated provinces, territories and municipalities on the impact the collective bargaining process would have on policing contribution adjustments dating back to 2017. Public Safety Canada provided the Town of Whitecourt an estimate of $433,000 to $455,000 as the retroactive amount payable by Whitecourt. Reserve funds have been set aside, and Whitecourt will be required to pay this expenditure once an invoice is received from Public Safety Canada.

The 2021 project list as of December 31, 2021 was presented as information to Council. The report outlines capital projects scheduled during the year, and is available for viewing at www.whitecourt.ca.

Whitecourt Town Council has scheduled a joint workshop for April 11 at 7:00 p.m. so that BR2 Architecture can present the completed detailed designs for the Culture & Events Centre.

The Living Waters Catholic Schools Board of Trustees invited Whitecourt Town Council to meet on June 28. The purpose of the meeting is to provide updates on the school division and school community.
