The Whitecourt & District Library Board attended the May 24 Regular Meeting of Council to provide an update on the Whitecourt Public Library’s current financial situation. Board representatives noted that 2021 and 2022 operating funding has yet to be received from Woodlands County, which has caused a significant operating deficit. As a result, the Library may be forced to layoff staff and close the doors to the public as of August 1, 2022 unless funding is received. In support of the Board, Whitecourt Town Council will be forwarding a letter to Woodlands County requesting the matter be addressed as soon as possible.
