Whitecourt Town Council Update - May 27, 2022
Posted on:The Whitecourt & District Library Board attended the May 24 Regular Meeting of Council to provide an update on the Whitecourt Public Library’s current financial situation. Board representatives noted that 2021 and 2022 operating funding has yet to be received from Woodlands County, which has caused a significant operating deficit. As a result, the Library may be forced to layoff staff and close the doors to the public as of August 1, 2022 unless funding is received. In support of the Board, Whitecourt Town Council will be forwarding a letter to Woodlands County requesting the matter be addressed as soon as possible.

Whitecourt will be participating in the Alberta Municipalities Power+ Energy Program for a ten-year term starting in 2024 for the supply of electricity. Locking in electricity rates will provide budget stability and minimize the impact of changes facing the energy sector.
