Posted on:

Temperatures are expected to rise throughout the weekend, and the Town of Whitecourt will continue to monitor the fire situation in our region. Whitecourt will be providing daily updates throughout the weekend to keep the community informed. Follow Whitecourt’s Facebook page or visit www.whitecourt.ca for current information and updates.

The fire rating in the region remains extreme. A fire ban remains in effect for Whitecourt and within the Woodlands Forest Area. For further details on the ban click here.

Now is the time to check or make an emergency preparedness kit. Being prepared and having a plan are important to protect you, your family, your home and your property.

  • Build and maintain an emergency kit stocked with supplies, including water, food, battery-powered radio, flashlight, medication, pet supplies, phone charger, etc.
  • Collect important documents, such as passports, birth certificates, insurance papers and a contact list, and store them in a safe place so that you can grab them quickly in the event of an evacuation.
  • If you have a vehicle, keep a vehicle kit and keep the tank full.
  • Talk to family members and talk about how you would reconnect if an emergency happened while separated. Identify an out-of-town contact that everyone can use to check-in with.
  • Download the Alberta Emergency App to receive emergency notices that will help protect you and your family.
