Whitecourt Wildfire Update - May 13, 2023

Posted on:

Current conditions of hot temperatures, wind gusts and low relative humidity have increased the fire risk in our region. A fire ban remains in effect for Whitecourt and within the Woodlands Forest Area. For further details on the ban click here.

Whitecourt residents should remain alert and stay informed. Whitecourt will continue to post updates on www.whitecourt.ca and related social media sites. Residents are encouraged to download the Alberta Emergency Alert app in order to receive emergency notices; and should be prepared for emergencies by making an emergency plan and kit. Checklists and other tips can be found at www.alberta.ca/emergency-preparedness.aspx.

Whitecourt continues to host residents from the Town of Fox Creek, Hamlet of Little Smoky and surrounding areas at the evacuation centre at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. The support provided by Whitecourt residents and businesses to evacuees has been overwhelming. From individual acts of kindness by paying for meals or helping to bag grocery items for evacuees, to businesses sponsoring meals at the reception centre, Whitecourt has generously stepped up for our neighbours in this time of need.
