Whitecourt Wildfire Update - May 16, 2023

Posted on:

Whitecourt continues to monitor the wildfire situation in the region. Whitecourt will post updates on www.whitecourt.ca and related social media sites.

Canadian Armed Forces and emergency incident management teams are arriving to the community in order to provide support to crews fighting the Fox Creek wildfire.

Due to the extreme fire risk, no burning is permitted throughout Whitecourt and the region. Learn more about the fire ban at www.whitecourt.ca/live/public-safety/emergency-management.

Evacuation Reception Centre
The Allan & Jean Millar Centre continues to accept evacuees from throughout the region, and has assisted over 730 families from Fox Creek, the MD of Greenview and Valleyview.

The Town of Whitecourt appreciates offers for volunteers; however, at this time our staff are able to meet the needs of evacuees. Those wishing to assist are encouraged to donate to the Whitecourt Food Bank and the Whitecourt Repeat Boutique as these organizations will be supplying necessary items to evacuees.

Those who have been evacuated to Whitecourt should contact their respective community for further instructions and evacuation information after registering at the Evacuation Reception Centre.
